Talking Like a Local...Well Not Quite

I really enjoyed practising reading and sounding out the Japanese Katakana script. I worked out several words. I walked to the shops by myself this morning and purchased shampoo and conditioner by reading the labels in Japanese (the packets helped a lot but I was able to read them to work out which was which). I've also been getting a bit more confidence to try using the Japanese I've learned. When I was out shopping I realised I wasn't wearing a watch and need to be back to the hotel to catch the bus to the fields by 11am. I walked over to a lady wearing a watch and said 'Sumimasen, ima nanji desu ka' (Excuse me, what is the time?') I understood that it was 10 something. It is really exciting to be able to communicate (even a little) with people in Japanese!
